Probably one of the calmest off-seasons the Minnoka Grays have experienced in quite some time. With everyone returning from the 2025 roster, there wasn't much to do except rest up and celebrate awards.

In January, Castle Field was awarded the Tink Larson High School Field of the Year by the MSHSBCA. The ceremony took place at Target Field with a full banquet, hosted by WCCO's Mike Max. The Castle Field Association received the award, followed by a heartfelt speech from Dave Steinbring. Grays GM Lars Larson, who also sits on the board, and Taylor Nelson were in attendance to keep the trophy streak going. Larson wasn't the only Gray to earn recognition that night. Shortstop Dan Skog was named Class A Section 4 Coach of the Year for his work with Legacy Academy. Unfortunately, Skog was not in attendance.

If that wasn't enough, our players are also gaining popularity off the field. Joey Olson was elected Federal League Treasurer, and Lars Larson was re-elected to League Communications for the sixth straight season.

The rest of the team has been hitting the weightroom like Matt Johnson, Casey Van Krevlen and Nick Larson who is inspired to make a full recovery and play full time this summer. Mike Weyrauch - who will come out of retirement and suit up for the Grays again - along with Dustin Rode, Jack Nelson and Matt Carter have been dropping nukes for the Grays in the Winter Hit League in Arden Hills.

In February, Mark Von Ruden, Michael Crane, Matt Carter, Bub Lovas, and Naha Martinez joined the Minnesota Hot Rods to compete in the Caribbean Classic in Puerto Rico for the third consecutive year. The Hot Rods fell short, but Lovas had a promising start on the island and that's good news to have healthy and rested Bub for the summer.

With only 56 days until the Federal League opener, the team is starting to come together with practice sessions, all inspired and ready to chase a historic four-peat. Schedules for the 2026 season are being finalized and should be posted soon—stay tuned! Let's go for Four!
